Community Information Corps

CIC logoThe School of Information is a leader in ensuring that innovations in information science and technology are brought to bear in service of the public good. The Community Information Corps (CIC) is at the heart of that effort.

The CIC serves as a focal point for students, faculty, and community members from across disciplines to explore the changing role of information and technology in a civil society. CIC provides students with readings, lectures, practical engagement service opportunities, research projects, and social and professional networking connections to launch them into careers as public interest information professionals -- what we call "public informationists."

Upon completion of their studies, CIC graduates typically work for nonprofit organizations, public libraries, government agencies, and museums, or they engage in entrepreneurial social ventures.

The mission of the CIC is to prepare information professionals -- through academic inquiry, practical engagement, and professional development -- for careers in community and public information work.
